Moyo
Is a small company, which creates Contemporary African design using local fabrics and materials. Since the company was set up in 2006, it has trained local people and now employs 13 full time workers as tailors and beaders at the companies' workshop in Dar es salaam.
Wonder welders
The Wonder welders project is based in Dar es salaam the capital of Tanzania. It was set up to train and provide employment for disabled people. Using a whole range of recycled materials they have created a unique and quirky range of giftware from glass, paper, metal and wood. You can visit their website on www.wonderwelders.org
Nzito
Nzito uses driftwood and hardwoods recycled from used dhow boats to create a range of products that ooze with texture and age. Seasoned over many years by sun and sea, when these boats reach the end of their useful life they are dismantled, left to dry, treated for wood boring insects. They are then handcrafted by the Nzito team into furniture and an extensive range of gifts. Touch and you can almost feel the Indian Ocean!
Mabinti
Mabinti works with homeless and disadvantaged young women. At their workshop in the capital dar es salaam. They train young women in a variety of craft based skills such as printing, stitching and dying. The young women remain at the centre for about a year and are then helped and guided into employment and independent living.
