About Tanzania
Tanzania lies along the east coast of southern Africa. Bordering with Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. Its many amazing natural features include mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, the Serengeti, theNgorogoro crater and the stunningly beautiful Indian Ocean islands of Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia.

A former British colony it gained independence in 1961 under the leadership of Julius Kambarage Nyrere. He remained in power until his retirement in 1985 and under his guidance Tanzania set the foundations to enable it move forward towards an independent and thriving democracy. The process has been peaceful - Tanzania has none of the tribal factionalism suffered by other countries and this has also helped it avoid conflict with its neighbours. Still, there is a long way to go with many Tanzanians remaining desperately poor and surviving on less $1.25 a day. Despite this, Tanzanians are also genuinely warm and welcoming to any and all visitors.

Part of this openness and welcoming nature is historical. Various archeological sources point to visits from many different cultures throughout Tanzania's history. Traders, invaders and colonialist came from as far as the Middle East, Asia and Europe. All this has combined to produce a rich cultural heritage derived in the main from its Arab trading past and traditional African/Masai heritage. It is this fusion of African, Asian design from which Kibibi sources its products.
